Rad Is All About Young People Rebuilding The World While Disrespecting What Came Before

Rad doesn't care what your dad thinks.

RAD

It was announced at this year’s E3 that Double Fine Productions, known for their varied titles and colorful themes, were joining the Xbox Game Studios. Because of that, it’s very likely that Rad will be the company’s final multiplatform title (or, at the very least, the final title that will see release on PlayStation consoles). Appropriately, the game is all about looking to the future without getting too bogged down in the past.

In a hands-on preview with Game Director Lee Petty from VG24/7, the Director broke down how one of the central ideas behind the game is youth rebuilding the world after society collapsed. While the game draws heavily on ’80s nostalgia, it doesn’t deify it, and the game’s elder narrative finds bewilderment in the protagonist’s lack of respect for the previous society.  “Ultimately the youth of Rad are not here to restore the societies of the past,” Petty says, “but to forge something new for themselves.”

Rad is a rougelike title that uses an interesting mutation gimmick that you read all about through here. It should make the game quite the ride when it releases sometime this year for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch and PC.
