PS5 To Be Officially Unveiled At PlayStation Meeting In February 2020 – Rumour

The future of PlayStation is allegedly going to be revealed early next year.

Potentially momentous PlayStation leaks have been doing the rounds on the internet, and while it’s best to take them with a grain of salt for now – as with any leak of this nature – if true, they could give us a clearer picture of what the next few months are going to look like for Sony and their next gen plans.

As per this leak, which originated on 4chan (via NeoGAF), Sony will be holding a PlayStation Meeting event in February 2020 (the exact date for it is supposedly February 12th), which is when they’ll be formally unveiling the PS5, after having already done a soft reveal of sorts for the system earlier this year. If this is indeed true, that would mean that we’ll find out about the price, release date, and possibly some of the launch titles for the system then.

As per the leak, major publishers like Ubisoft, Activision, EA, Square Enix, and more have received invites for the event already. On the software side of things, Sony will be focusing entirely on two of its biggest upcoming exclusives – The Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima – both of which also seem to be in line for PS5 releases.

The leak also claims that Sony has been investing heavily in VR of late, and that numerous tests were carried out internally over the last few months on a PlayStation VR 2, all of which yielded very successful results. Marketing for it is supposed to kick into gear before fiscal year 2021 begins. It’s worth noting, though, that Sony did publicly say not too long ago that they didn’t see the need to push out a PSVR 2 alongside the PS5.

The timeline does fit, not to mention the fact that the PS4 was also revealed at a similar PlayStation Meeting event in early 2013 a few months before its launch, so this leak doesn’t seem too outlandish. That said, as I mentioned before, in the absence of anything official, it’s best to not put too much stock in it.

This isn’t the only major PlayStation leak that’s doing the rounds right now. Apparently, a State of Play stream is also scheduled for November of this year, during which Sony will announce the release date of The Last of Us Part 2. Read more on that through here.
