PS5 To Possibly Feature AI-Powered Voice Assistant Called ‘PlayStation Assist’

The PS5 is looking like an impressive piece of hardware based on the list of specs for it that Sony has revealed so far, whether that’s its Zen 2 CPU, or its SSD, or something else, but it looks like Sony has a few other ideas for the console as well that they haven’t yet talked about.

For instance, as Niko Partners senior analyst Daniel Ahmad pointed out on Twitter, Sony recently filed a new patent for something called “PlayStation Assist”, which seems like a really interesting concept. It’s described as a voice assistant powered by artificial intelligence, so a player might make a query about something in the game (the example Ahmad uses is asking the assistant where the nearest health pack in the game is), after which the assistant then inputs your query, and dynamically responds to it with relevant information. Not only is this something that could work very well in VR games, it could also be a big boost for accessibility options.

There’s no guarantee that this sees the light of day, but it’s great to see that Sony is at least thinking of and working on such ideas. Here’s hoping we see more of this in the near future. A recent report suggested that Sony would be unveiling the PS5 in full in February 2020, so it’s possible that we receive more such information then, if it does end up happening.

Meanwhile, a recent rumour also stated that the PS5 Pro will be launching alongside the PS5 next year. Read more on that through here.
