Devil May Cry become one of the rare franchises that saw a reboot, but then returned to its original canon in a later entry in the form of Devil May Cry 5 this year. The action series came roaring back and was said to exceed publisher Capcom’s expectations. However, little has been said about the franchise’s future despite that, but today we got a strong hint that it will continue in some capacity.

In Capcom’s Integrated Annual Report, Capcom referred to Devil May Cry as a major brand, putting it in the same mold as Resident Evil. While nothing was explicitly said, the report mentioned that young talent would be put on those brands going forward, which seems to strongly hint the DMC series has more planned.

“Moreover, they are overflowing with energy, and desire to use their skills to develop new markets, which is why they joined Capcom, whose DNA is rooted in a focus on global markets,” Capcom wrote. “If the employee is highly capable, they may be assigned to the development of major brands, such as Resident Evil or Devil May Cry in the early years of their career. Learning and and achieving results under the tutelage of a leader while taking on more responsibility over time readies that employee to eventually take on a leadership role themselves in the future.”

Putting the series with the likes of Resident Evil, one of the company’s longest running and most consistently selling franchises shows that Devil May Cry is really back. While Devil May Cry 5 had some issues, it was a great return to old school action gameplay, so hopefully it can continue carrying that torch with whatever follows up come.
