Dreams is in early access now, but already the potential to builds things within it is very impressive. One imagines that when it does eventually go out of early access, more features will be on the way. But when that’ll be is up in the air as nothing has been said about it, meaning it’s possible we’ll be well on our way to the PS5 by the time the full game launches. But that shouldn’t be as issue, as developer Media Molecule are looking at this for the long haul.

In an interview with VG24/7, Media Molecule’s Daniel Kidney and Liam de Valmency talked about various aspects of the game. When questioned about the upcoming next generation hardware and how it’s impacted development as well as if there’s any concrete plans for that system’s new feature set, de Valmency shrugged it off, instead saying they are focusing on the features they want to bring to the game and that they plan to support it for a long time with a community they hope to build up, adding things with new hardware as it comes.

“When I think about Dreams, it’s like, we have this huge laundry list of features that we want to see,” de Valmency says. “I think with any creative tool, everyone has their own agenda for what they really want to make, so everyone has their own agenda for what they want to see in it. We have this whole backlog of cool features that we have only tried, or haven’t managed to polish, or we haven’t looked at yet. You know, new tools, we want to do new tutorials, new ways of teaching people, new ways of sharing stuff, new community features.”

This matches pretty well with past statements from Sony, who have said they have a decade-long plan for the game. It certainly is an interesting experiment, regardless of what you think about it. For now, though, the wait is on for the game’s full release some time in the future.
