Microsoft announced several new first party projects yesterday at X019, from Rare’s new IP Everwild to Obsidian Entertainment’s survival title Grounded, but they’ve got plenty more up their sleeves that we don’t know about even now. As they shift focus internally to ensure that their impressive first party lineup is delivering the content that it is meant to, Microsoft now supposedly has an embarrassment of riches.

Speaking at a media briefing (via VGC), Xbox Game Studios boss Matt Booty said that the announcements made at X019 are just “the tip of the iceberg”, and that there’s more announcements to come in the coming months, and then, of course, in 2020, as we approach the launch of Xbox Scarlett a year from now.

“Really in some ways this is the tip of the iceberg for us,” said Booty. “We’re going to show you some amazing things [at X019], but before the end of the year we will show you even more games and then as we go into 2020, I think you will see one of the most exciting line-ups that we’ve had from Xbox Game Studios in as long as I can remember.”

In fact, as per Booty, Microsoft now have more unannounced games than they know what to do with, which puts them in an enviable position.

“We’re going to round up the end of the year showing you even more games and then as we head into 2020 and into spring, I really want you to be on the lookout for the games that we’re going to be announcing heading into that stretch,” he said. “It’s really exciting. For the first time ever we’ve in a way got more games than we know what to do with in terms of when they’re going to be announced. We’re feeling really good about that.”

As for what these announcements will be, all we can do at this point is guess. We know that inXile have a new game in development, in addition to Wasteland 3, which launches next year. Obsidian Entertainment also recently confirmed that they’re working on even more big unannounced RPGs, one of which recently popped up in some interesting job ads, and Microsoft have seemed quite keen on turning The Outer Worlds into a tentpole franchise.

Meanwhile, there’s also Playground Games, who are working on an open world RPG that’s almost certainly Fable 4.
