The launch of Google’s Stadia is almost here, and while it remains to be seen how the larger market will take to the company’s first real foray into gaming, it seems developers, at least, are sufficiently impressed, with the makers of one of the biggest hits of the year noting how “shocked” they were at how well their title ran on the streaming-only Stadia.

That game is Borderlands 3, and the developers are, of course, Gearbox. Speaking to Wccftech, Randy Varnell, producer on the game, shared his experiences with the game on Stadia, pointing out he had been impressed by just how smooth the whole thing was.

“I have played Borderlands 3 running on Google Stadia. I was on a mobile phone with a controller attached to it. I was actually shocked at how smooth it was,” Varnell said. “You know, of course, it requires a pretty smoking Internet connection to be sure that everything is cool and all that, but [it’s a] surprisingly good port of the game. So I’m excited to see where that goes, it’s unexplored territory. No one knows what’s going to happen there. And I think, we were talking about this on the plane the other day, I think it’s got a lot of potential for the future.”

Borderlands 3 is not planned to be a launch title for Stadia, though in this exact same interview, Gearbox’s head of PR Austin Malcolm said it should be “near launch” if nothing else. Which is good news, I suppose, for those of you who want to play Borderlands 3, but don’t want to spend money on buying a console or building a PC.
