While the Dragon Ball series is back to prominence in perhaps the biggest way ever thanks to the new films and Dragon Ball Super, for a lot of people, their first exposure to the legendary action series came from Dragon Ball Z. That’s why it’s no surprise that the upcoming game that recreates that saga, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, is leaning hard into the nostalgia factor, from the game’s opening cinematic to a heart-tugging live action trailer released recently. And while all of that has been playing on the Japanese side of things, now those outside Japan get their own shot of nostalgia with an English trailer mimicking a Toonami style recap.

For many people outside Japan, their experience with the show was slightly different. While story and plot beats stayed the same, the show’s score and presentation were heavily remixed from the original Japanese airing. One such way was the infamous, over the top “Next Time On” and “Previously On” bumpers that recapped the show’s event with dramatic voiceovers. For those in the Americas, it was part of the Toonami Cartoon Network version, where it primarily aired.

The new trailer for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot apes that with “This Time On” with a similar voiceover that describes the various activities of the game. It lacks the gruffness of those old bumpers, as well as the quasi-metal background music, but it’s still nostalgic for all those who experienced the show in English for the first time.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot releases on January 17th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
