The Witcher became a highly popular IP when the third game in the series, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, was released back in 2015. That game helped put developer CD Projekt RED on the map in a big way, making their upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 one of the most anticipated games of 2020. But, little did we know, that was only the beginning. A new Netflix show based on the property just released, and it’s paying dividends for the game as well.
We’ve seen the game’s player count surge on the PC version via Steam after the Netflix show premiered. It seems that’s translated to consoles as well, as the game has also found its way back onto the top 10 digital selling PS4 games of December at number 7, according to the official PlayStation log.
With those kinds of statistics, it’s no wonder that CDPR has renewed the rights to the property the games was originally based on. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now on all major platforms, with the series planned to continue in the future after Cyberpunk 2077‘s release in April of this year.
