Recent reports have suggested that Sony could be skipping E3 2020, just as they did last year, and will instead opt to hold their own PS5-centric event. Further evidence suggests that that is indeed going to happen- and that Sony is going to make that announcement very soon.

Over on Twitter, Jason Schreier of Kotaku recently tweeted that E3 was in “the worst shape its ever been,” bringing up its poor attendance in 2019, before saying that he expects them to make the announcement that they’ll be holding their own PS5 reveal even rather than attending E3 2020. Niko Partners senior analyst Daniel Ahmad promptly replied to this tweet, saying that we should “hear more about this today.”

Sony’s attendance at E3 this year has been in doubt ever since they skipped E3 2019, and the company hasn’t ever really done much to alleviate those doubts. Meanwhile, reports have suggested that they could indeed be planning a PS5 reveal event in February similar to what they did for the PS4 in 2013. If that timeline is accurate, then an announce shouldn’t be too far away.
