It's not just the single player that's getting delayed.

CD Projekt RED recent confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 was being pushed back from its looming April release date by five months. At the same time, they also gave an update on the game’s multiplayer component, which they confirmed last year as being under development.

During a press conference held by CDPR following the game’s delay (via IGN), the developer said in response to an investor’s question that (starting at the 6:30 mark) that Cyberpunk 2077’s multiplayer won’t be out until after 2021, also mentioning “a series of events we expect to occur” after the game’s release date later this year.

“Given the expected release of Cyberpunk 2077 in September, and speaking of a series of events we expect to occur after that date, 2021 appears unlikely as a release date for the Cyberpunk multiplayer,” said Michał Nowakowski, CD Projekt’s Member of the Board and SVP of Business Development.

The “series of events” being referred to here is most likely the launch of Cyberpunk 2077’s post-launch expansions, which, if CD Projekt RED’s earlier statements are anything to go by, will follow a similar release pattern to The Witcher 3’s expansions.

Meanwhile, Nowakowski also confirmed that Cyerpunk 2077’s multiplayer component is the second AAA project the studio has previously mentioned it was working on.

Cyberpunk 2077 is out on September 17 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
