EA Is Looking Into Better Support For Switch, But Is Conscious Its Best-Selling Games Are First Party Titles

"You’ll hear some new things on the future that we’re putting on the platform," says EA CFO Blake Jorgensen.

Of all the major third parties out there, EA’s support for the Switch has by far been the worst, comprising of pared back releases of games that – for understandable reasons – don’t perform nearly as well as the proper, full-fledged versions of those games on other consoles. However, the company claims it’s looking at the platform closely, and might have new games to announce in the future.

Speaking about the Switch during the company’s recent quarterly financial call, and if EA is more interesting in putting games on the system in light of its very impressive recent sales figures, EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgense said that they’re looking into how best they can support the platform.

“We’re always looking and discussing with Nintendo about what else we can put on the platform, and you can imagine that as the platform grows, our interest in adding content for that platform grows,” he said.

Jorgensen, however, also noted that all the best-selling games on the Switch are typically first party titles, and since third party games don’t typically perform nearly as well on the system, that is something the company is taking into consideration while making its decisions as well.

“But we’re also conscious that the top selling titles by a long shot are all Nintendo software,” he said, “which is fabulous software, but it helps us balance the reality of how big our market could be there.”

That said, Jorgensen added that EA will be releasing some new games for the Switch in the future.

“But trust that we’re looking at that and you’ll hear some new things on the future that we’re putting on the platform, and we’re very pleased of how it has grown alongside the growth of both Sony and Microsoft’s platforms,” he said.

This isn’t the first time EA have spoken about wanting to release more games on the Switch, and though nothing has really come out of that so far, people will be hoping that changes sooner rather than later. Most recently, a leak claimed that EA were working on a Star Wars game for the Switch, among other games based on the property- read more on that through here.
