PS5’s Recent Devkit Performing Better Than Xbox Series X – Rumour

An insider claims that a PS5 devkit from January performs better than the new Xbox, but that differences between the two will be minimal regardless.

With next-gen consoles launching later this year, speculation and discourse about what their newer, more powerful hardware will bring to the table has been rampant- as have, of course, been comparisons between the two based on said speculations. A recent leak suggested that the Xbox Series X might end up being notably more powerful than the PS5, but another new report claims that that might not be the case after all.

Over on NeoGAF, verified industry professional BGs is reporting that as per a recent devkit build of the PS5 from the beginning of this year, Sony’s console is still performing better than the Xbox Series X, though they also make it clear that that might change with future builds- which makes sense, considering that the consoles are still months away from launch.

Interestingly enough, BGs also says that the difference between the power of both consoles will ultimately be very minimal and end up mattering all that much. Though the one of the two might be somewhat better than the other on paper, as per BGs, what will be most important for both systems will be what kind of a library of games they can cultivate.

“This generation will NOT be the generation of the visual difference that makes you decide what to buy,” BGs says. “It will be the generation of the games. Yes, one will be faster than another (but you will not notice it in practice). One will load the screen in 10 seconds and the other in 7 seconds. One will have a better sound than the other. One will run the game at 60fps and the other… too. What will really matter will be the quality that development studies can achieve with their time and budget.”

Given the nature of this report, come as it does from an unofficial source, it’s best to take it with a grain of salt (as is the case for any such report in the absence of official word from Microsoft and Sony). Either way, with Holiday 2020 and the PS5’s and Xbox Series X’s releases approaching, it shouldn’t be too long before we know the final specs of both consoles- so stay tuned.
