The closer a game now launches to the PS5 and the Xbox Series X’s Holiday releases, the likelier it’ll be that it’s going to be a cross-gen title. Several games have already confirmed that they’ll be doing that- like multiple upcoming Ubisoft releases, while Microsoft will be sticking with cross-gen games for some time to come.

Recently, People Can Fly and Square Enix’s Outriders also made the jump from late-gen release to cross-gen title, pushing back its original Summer 2020 launch for a simultaneous launch on all platforms this Holiday. Speaking with VG24/7, Outriders lead level designer Rafal Pawlowski said that the studio had to “adjust timelines” to make that happen.

“We adjusted timelines,” he said. “Because right now it makes more sense with what we already know about the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. It’s just adjusting the timeline for us.”

Meanwhile, lead narrative designer Szymon Barchan gave assurances that there were no other reasons for the delay, saying that there “are no problems with the game”, and that development will proceed as scheduled.

“We’re finishing the game, there are no problems with it,” he said. “It’s a product and you’ve got to think about it like that.”

Recently, the developers also said that Outriders won’t be a live service game, and will be full-featured and content-complete at launch. A host of new details on the game have emerged of late- make sure to check them all out through here.
