Near the end of last year, we got the announcement of the next game from Rare, a gorgeous looking title by the name of Everwild. And the announcement is about all we got. While we do know the lead designer is an alum of Lionhead, we have little idea what kind of game we’re even to expect. Well, a new trademark is out there that could point to something a little on the unexpected side.
A new trademark was filed for the game, which you can see in full here, and most of it’s pretty standard, but one thing does jump out. One section of the goods and service section seems to imply there could be some degree of live service, or GaaS if you prefer the term, elements.
“Software as a Service (SaaS); Platform as a Service (“PaaS); Non-downloadable computer game software; providing a web site featuring technology that enables users to create, upload, and share user-generated videos based on computer game play; Providing temporary use of online non-downloadable software and software as a service (SAAS) services featuring software for transmitting and for receiving video games.”
Of course, this is relatively vague enough that it could mean a lot of different things in the current environment of video games, but it could at least give us an idea of what to potentially expect. It’s all we got to go on until we hear more for the title anyway, so stay tuned for that.
