60 FPS Will Be the “Standard Output” On Xbox Series X – Microsoft Exec

It might even go up to 120 FPS in some cases.

Right from the get-go, Microsoft have taken the position that with the Xbox Series X, they’re going to prioritize performance over visuals. The console is clearly an incredibly powerful one, and it goes without saying that games are going to look better and shinier than they ever have, but it seems like advancements and improvements in higher and better frame rates is something Microsoft wants to emphasize with the coming console generation.

For instance, Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg – head of marketing at Xbox – recently took to Twitter and confirmed that the standard frame rate of output for games on the Xbox Series X is going to be 60 frames per second, and that developers can even leverage the system’s architecture to go as high as 120 FPS in some cases.

It should be said that this doesn’t mean there will be no games running below 60 FPS at all. Though 60 FPS might very well eventually become the industry standard – and what a blessed day that will be – in all likelihood, at least in the first few years of the console generation, we will still see many games running at 30 frames per second, especially since many releases will choose to be cross-gen titles.

Of course, things might be different for first party releases- perhaps that’s something we’ll find out more about this July during Microsoft’s big Xbox Game Studios blowout (which will also feature Halo Infinite).
