Nintendo Not Planning Any Directs For Now, New Announcements To Be Made With Surprise Trailers – Rumour

Expect new announcements to follow the recent Paper Mario reveal's trend.

Like everyone else in the world, Nintendo’s plans have suffered setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Reports emerged earlier this month that they had suspended their plans to hold their traditional June Nintendo Direct for the year, and now, more details on the same have emerged, courtesy of Jeff Grubb of GamesBeat.

Grubb reports that it’s not just the June Direct that Nintendo have dropped plans for- it seems the company doesn’t have plans for a new Nintendo Direct broadcast at all for the foreseeable future, and has informed third party development partners to not wait for any upcoming Directs, and make their announcements as they see fit.

Nintendo themselves have more announcements to be made, but they will be made similar to how the recently unveiled Paper Mario: The Origami King was announced- with isolated, surprise trailers coming out of nowhere. According to the report, those announcements include Super Mario 3D World Deluxe and remasters of other 3D Super Mario games – which have all been in the rumour mill for a while – as well as Pikmin 3 Deluxe – which we also heard about recently from Grubb himself.

The report also mentions that Nintendo might have other surprise announcements up its sleeve besides the ones mentioned above, but might be saving those for whenever it can move forward with plans for a Nintendo Direct again.

Nintendo has always been a famously secretive company, so one can never be too sure about their plans, so take this how you will. That said, given the current situation they (and the rest of the world) find themselves in, it’s very likely that this is indeed true. Either way, stay tuned to GamingBolt, and we’ll keep you updated should we learn anything more.
