PS5 Reveal Event Was Postponed Multiple Times So It Could Be More “Professional” – Rumour

Sony didn't want "at-home-quality stuff" for the reveal.

Rumours of a PS5 reveal event have been coming and going since the beginning of the year, with many saying that it would come in February, then in March, then on and on and on. That event hasn’t come till yet, but recently, multiple sources have said that the event is finally happening on June 3, where Sony will show off several PS5 games, and that more reveals will come at a regular clip from then on.

But why exactly has it taken Sony this long to pull the curtain back, especially when you look at how Microsoft have been handling Xbox Series X reveals, which began in earnest all the way back in December? Well, according to journalist Alanah Pearce, Sony has delayed events for PS5 multiple times over the last few months, because they have been adamant on having a professionally streamed event in a studio with a full crew rather than something that has an “at-home-quality.”

“Sony has tried to do presentations already this year, and I know this from developers who were supposed to be part of those presentations, but didn’t, because for some reason, somewhere in the Sony hierarchy they were very obsessed with the idea of having a very, very professional stream, rather than something previously recorded,” Pearce said on Kinda Funny Games Daily (which you can view below). “So they weren’t willing to do anything outside of a massive studio with a crew of like, 25 to 30 people. Which, for those devs who were planning to have their games revealed at those certain streams, was very frustrating.

“PlayStation just wasn’t having the at-home-quality stuff. They were refusing to do it. So I feel like maybe this is actually going to be huge.”

Given the upheaval that has been prevalent pretty much everywhere because of the COVID-19 situation, it makes sense that the professional stream Sony allegedly wanted would have been hard to pull off in recent months, while this also falls in line with other reports that have said that Sony’s reveal plans have been in flux for a while. Whether or not this is indicative of the upcoming reveal event – and whether or not that event happens on schedule – remains to be seen.
