Valorant for Consoles Is Being Prototyped, But Not Guaranteed to Happen

Riot Games won't release their tactical shooter on consoles if they have to compromise the experience in any way.

Riot Games’ tactical 5v5 shooter Valorant recently exited beta and released for PC, and given how wildly popular it’s been over the last couple of months, questions about whether the game will eventually also come to other platforms have been asked more than a few times. Riot Games have said before that they’re exploring the possibility of bringing the game to consoles and mobile devices, and speaking recently to GameSpot, executive producer Anna Donlon provided some more details on that.

Donlon explained the Riot Games are currently prototyping Valorant for consoles- but you shouldn’t take that as a guarantee that that will lead to anything. According to Donlon, Valorant has a very specific style of play, and if that cannot be translated perfectly to consoles, Riot Games won’t be making any compromises to the game in order to do so.

“We are definitely prototyping that right now,” she said. “But there’s a way to play this game and there’s a way to experience this game that we’re not entirely sure translates completely to console play.”

“If we feel like we can deliver this experience on those platforms, we absolutely will,” she added. “But we really want Valorant to stand for a certain type of gameplay and a certain type of experience.”

Donlon added that there’s still every possibility that the game makes it to other platforms, but while designers on the team are “excited” about trying to make it happen, if it were to brought to consoles, it would take time.

“It’s not a no, for sure,” she said. “But it definitely wasn’t the focus out of the gate. If we were to do it, it’ll definitely be delayed.”

Valorant is available now for free on PC.
