While a bit of the surprise was taken out of the revealed of Resident Evil 8 (officially called Resident Evil: Village), the unveiling trailer for the game at Sony’s event looked pretty fantastic. Now, we get a bit more of a look at the game and what we can expect from this new entry.

A video was released shortly after the reveal trailer was shown where two Capcom Producers broke down a little bit of what we saw. They confirmed the game is running on an updated version of the RE Engine, as you’d expect, with a focus on updated graphics and sound. Despite previous leaks, the game will not be crossgen and will only come to next generation consoles.

They confirm this is a direct sequel to RE7, taking place a few years after the events of that game. You will once again be put in the shoes of Ethan Winters as he lives life anew in a remote village. But an event happens that shakes his world to the core that involves series regular Chris Redfield.

As far as the game’s design, as you can see, the UI looks very similar to RE7, and the remakes of 2 and 3. The game will, again, be in the first person view, and they say this will ‘up the ante’ on the action side of things, which you could probably pick up based on the tone of the reveal trailer. Presumably, it will be VR capable as well, but as of now nothing has been confirmed about that. It also seems the game will have no loading, which is quite interesting. They leave us with a new key art that is apparently important in some form to the game’s plot at the end to let our imagine run wild.

Resident Evil: Village will release sometime in 2021 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC.
