Bringing Apex Legends to mobile devices has been part of EA’s plans for the free-to-play battle royale title almost since the beginning. Just a couple of months after Respawn’s shooter came out, EA confirmed that the game would be releasing for mobile devices eventually. Later in the year, they confirmed that they planned on a mobile launch for the game before April 2021, while earlier this year, they re-iterated that those plans were still in place.

Now, in a recent investors call (via VGC), EA CEO Andrew Wilson provided another update on the same, confirming that for now, EA plans on doing a “soft launch” for Apex Legends on the mobile devices by the end of the year. When asked about EA’s plans for game releases in the mobile space, Wilson said, “We have [Plants vs. Zombies 3] in soft-launch [and] we’ve talked about having Apex Legends in soft launch by the end of this year.”

Given the success that free-to-play battle royale titles have found on mobile devices – especially in Asian markets, which seems to be a particular focus for EA based on their previous statements – a speedy mobile launch for Apex Legends is probably something EA will be looking to prioritize.

Currently, Apex Legends is available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It was recently confirmed for a Fall 2020 release on the Nintendo Switch as well.
