Square Enix Files Trademark For Live A Live

The 1994 RPG gets a surprising filing seemingly out of nowhere.

Final Fantasy, SaGa, when you think of Square Enix, you think of the list of iconic and well known Japanese RPG series under their belt. They have released other games, of course, but it’s a genre they will probably always be synonymous with to some degree. And, as you’d also expect, there’s also a lot of RPG titles that have fallen by the wayside as well. Recently, one of those got a surprise trademark filing.

On July 2nd, Square filed a trademark for Live A Live in Australia. The game was originally released in 1994 and featured 7 different stories from prehistoric times to the far future that all tied together with distinctly different protagonists and art styles.

While filing and refiling trademarks isn’t uncommon for companies, this is apparently the first time anything has been done for Live A Live 26 years after its initial release. The game never left Japan, and was only re-released in 2015 and 2016 on the virtual consoles for Wii U and 3DS, respectively. Could something be in the works? A remake or port of some kind? We’ll just have to wait and see.
