It’s been quite the wait, but later this week we’ll finally get our hands on Ghost of Tsushima. Sucker Punch’s latest is an ode to the old school samurai film, as a samurai must turn his back on his honor-based teachings to become an assassin. The story will apparently be a pretty painful one going by Composer Ilan Eshkeri’s take on the game.

In an interview with Mid-Life Gamer Geek, Eshkeri talked about almost passing on the project since violence was generally not his thing. But after having the story laid out, he ultimately changed his mind. He said Jin’s journey was one of a constant state of emotional conflict and that was what inspired him to take on the project.

“This is a really powerful, emotional story. Of course, there’s a lot of fighting in it, but at its core it’s a story of a young man who has to go against everything he’s been taught, all the traditions he’s been taught, all the morality he’s been taught – he has to go against that and do things that are against all of that in order to save the people he loves. So the character is in a constant state of emotional conflict – and it’s that exact bit of emotional conflict where all the interesting and complex and deep emotions are. That’s what inspired me.”

Ghost of Tsushima will release on July 17th exclusively for the PlayStation 4, and the game is available now for pre-loading. The game’s review embargo is set to lift later today, so keep your eyes out for incoming reviews.
