Sucker Punch’s new open world title Ghost of Tsushima – the last major first party PS4 exclusive – will be releasing in just three days from now. Ahead of its launch, the review embargo has now been lifted, which means final impressions from several outlets and publications have gone live- and they’re about as positive as you would have expected.

With a score of 84 on Metacritic and 85 on OpenCritic at the time of writing, it definitely looks like critics are impressed with Sucker Punch’s first new game in six years. IGN have awarded it a 9/10, calling it “an enormous and densely packed samurai adventure”, with praise directed toward its combat and visuals, and some criticism for occasional lack of polish and the AI in stealth sections.

Game Informer’s review is similarly positive. With a score of 9.5/10, it states, Ghost of Tsushima unabashedly borrows many of its strongest features from other open-world adventures, and executes on them with skill.” Similarly, GamesRadar’s review praises the game’s world design, storytelling, and combat, awarding it a score of 4.5/5.

GameSpot’s review is a little bit more muted, awarding Ghost of Tsushima a score of 7/10. Though it praises the open world environments and combat, criticism is reserved for things such as a rote open world quest structure. Similarly, Metro’s 7/10 review praises the game’s atmospheric open world and enjoyable combat, but criticizes shallow gameplay mechanics and formulaic open world missions structure.

Ghost of Tsushima is out for the PS4 on July 17. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage on Sucker Punch’s samurai action game.
