A PS5-focused State of Play event has been in the rumour mill for a couple of months now. Just recently, a report suggested that the show would feature new first and third party announcements, and now, if an insider’s word is to be believed, we might have the exact date for when this event will take place.

As per Roberto Serrano, an insider who has accurately leaked information in the past – including the PS5 reveal event in June – Sony will be broadcasting their next State of Play on August 6, at 1 PM Pacific Time- yes, he specifically mentioned the time the event will air as well.

Given how packed Sony’s PS5 reveal event in June was with announcements – both first and third party – it’s hard to gauge what exactly could be shown off at another event in August, should it indeed happen. Silent Hill reboot has been rumoured for some time, though it’s also possible that Sony will share more information about imminent PS5 launch games, including Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan has previously said that many more PS5 games are in development that are yet to be announced, so we could hear something about some of those.

Recently, multiple PS5-related pre-order pages went live on Amazon, and though pre-orders were not made available, many were led to believe that they would be opened up imminently. Sony have since said that they will reveal the date for PS5 pre-orders going live well in advance. If a State of Play event does indeed come in August, it is possible that Sony will announce the console’s price and launch date there, in addition to announcing a date for pre-orders.

As always, however, take this leak with a grain of salt, at least until we hear something official from Sony. We’ll keep you updated as this story develops, so stay tuned.
