Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition Is Not Currently Planned For PC, Capcom Confirms

The developer says they are optimizing for next generation consoles.

Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition

There was a period where it seemed like the Devil May Cry series would be one of the many IPs rotting in Capcom’s franchise graveyard, but it seems the action series just refused to die and came roaring back with a vengeance in last year’s Devil May Cry 5. A Special Edition release was also announced out of nowhere at Sony’s PS5 showcase earlier this week as a launch title for next generation consoles. But it seems that PC players will be left out for now.

Special Edition adds several things, such as a playable Vergil, Turbo Mode, Legendary Dark Knight difficulty as well as ray-tracing. All of that will be exclusive to next generation versions, with the exception of Vergil, which will be DLC for all vanilla releases of the game across current systems and PC. People were wondering about what the full situation was on PC, and Capcom confirmed to Eurogamer that as of now there is no plans for Special Edition on the platform. A spokesperson told the site that they are focusing on optimization for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition is specifically being developed and optimized to benefit the system architecture and leap in processing power offered by PS5 and Xbox Series X, so we’re focusing on these platforms. At present, there are no plans to release DMC5SE on PC.”

It’s a rather odd decision as it seems by most accounts the vanilla release did well on PC. It could be possible that they simply needed to focus on getting the game out for launch of the new consoles and will come to PC later, but for now, it seems you’ll need a PS5 or Xbox Series S/X to be able to get everything out of Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition.
