Ever since the marketing cycle for the new system began, a lot has been hyped about new SSDs that each console will have. The read and loading speeds for them will be significantly faster than what we’re used to now with standard HDDs. But what does that look on the player side? Well, in theory it can lead to a lot of new game design potential, but for now the big selling point in the early days is the promise of quick to non-existent loading, and we’ve got two examples.
If you’re not aware, Japanese press and YouTubers were given the first access to the PS5 over the weekend. Japanese magazine Famitsu tried out two games to kind of test out the loading on these fabled SSDs. One was Astro’s Playroom, which will come packed-in with all PS5 systems, as well as Godfall, one of the first games to be revealed for the console. There’s not a lot to say here, as it’s all in the video, but as you can see it’s pretty lightening fast in how quick you get back into the game.
The PS5 will launch November 12th and both Astro’s Playroom and Godfall will be right there beside it.
