Microsoft have made Xbox Game Pass central to their strategy, and creating new content to drive up subscriptions for it – across multiple devices – has become integral to their approach to the industry. Sony, on the other hand, are continuing with the tried and true, with multiple premium AAA exclusives that they’re using to attract consumers.
But that doesn’t mean Sony are completely ignoring Game Pass. In fact, it’s possible that they might be looking to push out their own response to Microsoft’s service on the PS5 sooner rather than later. Speaking about the same in an interview with TASS, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan said that Sony will have news to share about the topic eventually.
“There is actually news to come, but just not today,” Ryan said. “We have PlayStation Now which is our subscription service, and that is available in a number of markets.”
It makes sense that Sony are considering doing something similar to Game Pass (if that is indeed what Ryan is referring to here), considering how successful the service has been for Microsoft and how well the masses have responded to it.
Whether or not Sony follows a strictly similar model, and when the news Ryan speaks about will be shared, remains to be seen. Stay tuned to GamingBolt, and we’ll keep you updated on any new details that come our way.
