One of the biggest and most pleasant surprises to come out of The Game Awards this year was The Callisto Protocol. Developed by a team made up of former Visceral Games veterans and led up by Dead Space creator Glen Schofield, it looked exactly like the sort of successor to the beloved horror franchise (in spirit, if not in name) that fans have been desperate for for years.
The Callisto Protocol’s developers have already spoken about the game’s similarities to Dead Space, and recently, speaking with IGN, Glen Schofield spoke a bit more about that. More specifically, after acknowledging Dead Space’s legacy of one of the most terrifying horror games of its time, he said that developer Striking Distance is hoping to reach similar heights with The Callisto Protocol.
“I’m looking forward to really trying to make the scariest game on next-gen platforms,” Schofield said. “From what I hear — it’s hard to be the creative and talk nicely about it — but from what I hear… [Dead Space] was one of the scarier games of [its generation] and I want to do the same on next-gen, or what’s considered now the current-gen.”
The Callisto Protocol is due out some time in 2022 for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
