While EA have officially confirmed that DICE is at work on the next Battlefield game, and that it will be releasing in 2021, they haven’t said much else about the shooter, and details on it have been hard to come by. A new leak by known Battlefield leaker Tom Henderson (aka TheLongSentation), however, has possibly shed some light on what players can expect from the sequel, from reiterating older leaks to detailing new potential information.

According to Henderson, Battlefield 6 is going to be a soft reboot of the franchise, and taking inspiration from Battlefield 3, will once again have a modern-day setting (which is something that he has mentioned in previous leaks as well), following the historical settings of the previous two Battlefield titles.

Henderson also mentions that Battlefield 6 (or whatever EA ends up calling it) will be releasing as a cross-gen title. While that might not come as much of a surprise, considering the fact that it’ll only be releasing a year after the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S’ releases, EA have talked about how the technical advancement of the new consoles has enabled Battlefield 6 to have “never-before-seen scale”, and how it will “deliver on a true next-gen vision for the franchise.”

Interestingly enough, Henderson says that those worried about the older consoles holding back the vision for Battlefield 6 can rest easy, since an entirely different team within DICE is supposedly handling the previous-gen versions of the game, based on his sources who are familiar with the project and its development. Other than relatively limited destruction, Battlefield 6 allegedly won’t be making any cutbacks on older hardware.

Additionally, Henderson also claims that DICE are developing massive multiplayer maps for the shooter that can support up to 128 players- which, again, is something that he has mentioned previously. Henderson says that this doesn’t necessarily mean there will be 128-player modes in the game, with the focus internally at DICE being on 64-player modes. According to him, there were also plans to have a battle royale mode in the game at one point, but whether or not those plans are still underway is unclear.

Given the fact that this is all unconfirmed information, don’t take this as gospel just yet, even though the source here has proven to be reliable in the past. That said, with Battlefield 6 scheduled for a late 2021 launch, one would imagine it won’t be too long before EA officially unveils the game.
