The last couple of Battlefield games have had historic settings, with Battlefield 1 and 5 putting players on the fronts of World War 1 and 2 respectively, but it seems the next game in the series might be going back to a modern-day setting, which the series had stuck to for a few years before Battlefield 1 came along.
Over on Twitter, Tom Henderson – who has previously leaked accurate information about Battlefield and Call of Duty games – recently teased that Battlefield 6 will have a modern day setting. Meanwhile, this was followed up by GamesBeat reporter Jeff Grubb taking to ResetEra to reiterate that that was indeed the case.
Battlefield had a good run with modern-day settings a few years back, with the likes of Battlefield 3, 4, Hardline, and the Bad Company games, so it would be interesting to see the next game in the series taking that approach again.
Either way, it’s going to be a while before EA reveals whether or not this is accurate. They recently confirmed that the game’s development was going very well, but have also stated that it won’t be out until late 2021 (when it will, of course, also release for next-gen consoles).
