Metro Exodus Dev Says They’ve Already Adapted To PS5’s Variable Frequency

It's very similar to what they've been doing on PC already.

Metro Exodus - Sam's Story (5)

It was a big day for fans of the Metro franchise. The latest entry in the series, Exodus, was announced to be getting an Enhanced Edition on PC with lots of new technical features, while details on the shooter’s upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X/S port were also shared. Speaking of the PS5 version, it seems the developer behind the games, 4A Games, has adapted well to Sony’s new hardware.

In an interview with Wccftech, 4A Games Chief Technical Officer Oleksandr Shyshkovtsov was asked about the console’s variable frequency. Shyshkovtsov indicated that, at least for them, it was no struggle. He didn’t get into specific details, but said that the team had largely adjusted to that and it didn’t seem to be a problem vs a more fixed frequency approach like Microsoft did with the Xbox Series consoles, comparing it to things they’ve had to keep in mind for PCs for a long time before.

“I am completely OK with it,” he said. “Any engine workload is variable by nature, be it rendering or gameplay simulation. It’s just another variable for which we already adapted to. By the way, we’ve lived with that for decades on PC.”

Metro Exodus is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The Enhanced Edition on PC and the PS5, Xbox Series X/S is coming at some point in 2021.
