Nintendo’s latest console, the Switch, has been quite the beast on the sales charts ever since it launched in 2017. The game was just under 80 million in unit sales at the last report, so there’s no indication the machine is slowing down any time soon. Rumors have also been swirling that a new, upgraded version of the Switch will be coming soon, despite Nintendo stating a new model won’t be revealed soon, and we have more leaks about it.

On the popular gaming ResetERA forums, insider/leaker NateDrake posted a few things he knew about this upcoming machine, that most dub the ‘Switch Pro.’ He didn’t give a lot of details, but did say he knew it would feature Nvidia’s DLSS tech as well as 4K functionality. Whatever the device will be would be supported alongside the base Switch and Switch Lite for years down the road.

“Won’t really talk more about the tech specs than I have. It has DLSS & it has 4k functionality. No reason to go deeper than that right now. That’s enough to illustrate the device is a meaningful upgrade. First party support with span the new hardware and current Switch for at least a couple of years.”

Nate also responded to a question about whether there would be an upgrade to the handheld mode, which he said there would be, but again gave no specific details on what that meant. He also later said that while he did not know the release date or year of this Switch Pro, he was confident it would at least be announced this year with an actual 2021 release possible.

As always with leakers and insiders, take what’s said as rumor for time being. But this information does largely match info that was datamined last month in a Switch firmware update, and there’s been tons of similar rumors floating around for the better part of a year. Couple all of that with Nintendo’s known methodology of releasing updated versions of their portables and it all seems pretty likely. For now, the wait is on.
