Grand Theft Auto 5 launched in 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and has continued on ever since that point, topping the charts on a consistent basis even after coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It’s primed to dominate for a third generation of consoles, too, as a version is planned for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The game has already been successful on a level rarely seen, and the CEO of Rockstar parent company Take-Two Interactive thinks the new version will be up to snuff.
Speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference (as transcribed by VGC) Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick spoke briefly about the upcoming release. While not going into specifics, he followed up on previous statements about not wanting “simple” ports, and said that he had faith in Rockstar that they would release something “great.”
“So, we improve the technology, we upgrade the visuals, and we make performance enhancements. And that’s why I think our remastered titles typically do so well.
“We’ve done great with the Mafia series, for example, and Grand Theft Auto [5] is now heading into its third generation which is incredible
“It was a standard-bearer when it was launched, it continued to be the standard-bearer in the second generation, we’ll see how Grand Theft Auto does in the next generation. Obviously, I’m confident that Rockstar is going to deliver just a great experience, but you can’t do that if you’re just doing a simple port.”
Grand Theft Auto 5 is available now for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S edition of the game is set to come out sometime this year.
