“Sony is Really Behind What We’re Doing” – Media Molecule Studio Director

It seems Sony plans to keep investing in the Dreams and LittleBigPlanet studio.

LittleBigPlanet was a big moment for Media Molecule, with the studio properly announcing itself as a major player and creative force to be reckoned with, and with the launch of Dreams last year, they touched entirely new heights, taking their “play, create, share” mantra to extreme heights. In spite of its obvious talent, Media Molecule as a studio hasn’t generally been as central to Sony’s strategy as the likes of, say, Naughty Dog and SIE Santa Monica Studio have been, but worry not- Sony has every intention to keep investing in the studio and its growth.

Speaking recently to Kotaku, Media Molecule studio director Siobhan Reddy said that the developer continues to receive the full backing of Sony, who plan on keeping investing in the studio for some time to come, evidenced by the heavy recruitment drive Media Molecule has been on of late. “We’re on a big recruitment drive right now because to make the progress we want, we need programmers, and we need designers,” Reddy said. “What really excites me about all of this is Sony is really behind what we’re doing and are investing in the studio to grow.”

Media Molecule plans on keeping the Dreams platform alive and kicking for a long time to come, and has been updating it with new features and content regularly since its launch. Currently, the game is available on PS4, and backward compatible on PS5, though shortly after the game’s launch last year, Media Molecule said that there were no plans for a native port. There has also been some tentative discussion regarding a PC version, though whether or not that actually ends up happening remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, the developer intends to keep making new games as well, even as it continues to support Dreams.
