Resident Evil Village

Thanks to the latest issue of Game Informer, a plethora of new details on Resident Evil Village have emerged, from its terrifying new werewolf enemies and how they will work, to its expansive and vertical world design, to the game’s approach to puzzles and how contextual they will be, and much more (summarized on Twitter by AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem). Meanwhile, other new mechanics in the game have also been revealed, some of which are going to be introduced in the series for the first time- such as being able to hunt wildlife and using their meat for upgrades.

That’s right- from chickens and pigs to horses and fish, Resident Evil Village’s titular village will have a lot of wildlife in it, and players will be able to hunt these animals for their meat. You can then take this meat, or their eggs, or other components to the Duke, the game’s merchant character, and have him cook up special meals that can upgrade your base stats, including health, movement speed, guarding strength, and more.

Meanwhile, the Duke will, of course, also be crucial for upgrades made to weapons. Each weapon will obviously have standard upgrades, but some will have special upgrade options as well- such as a cheek rest for the F2 rifle to reduce weapon sway, or a hair trigger for the M1897 shotgun to improve its rate of fire, and more.

Resident Evil Village launches for May 7 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. Stay tuned for more details and gameplay footage dropping in the coming weeks, especially with a new showcase airing tomorrow.
