Cyberpunk 2077’s launch is going to be remembered for a long time to come, and not for the right reasons. A game falling woefully short of pre-launch promises and being riddled with technical issues (especially on consoles) led to disastrous consequences, to the extent that it was delisted (and still remains delisted) from the PlayStation Store entirely. CD Projekt ended up having to issue full refunds for the game to dissatisfied players, and now, they’ve confirmed what the full extent of that was.

In their recent fiscal report, the Polish company confirmed that about 30,000 copies of Cyberpunk 2077 have been refunded so far. During their earnings call with investors, they stated that roughly $2.23 million have been spent on the game’s “Help Me Refund” program (via GamesIndustry), but additional figures in the aforementioned fiscal report itself state that accounting for refunds made to retailers and projected loss of sales and additional refunds, the total losses incurred amount to roughly a total of $51.2 million.

That’s not a number to scoff at, of course, but given the fact that Cyberpunk 2077 had sold 13.7 million copies by the end of 2020 itself, it seems the game is still easily going to net healthy profits for CD Projekt, even accounting for its massive development and marketing budget (which is really saying something).
