Rumours of a partnership between Hideo Kojima and Microsoft started emerging earlier this year, and it’s looking like the deal between the two parties is close to being finalized. GamesBeat journalist Jeff Grubb, who was the one who originally broke the story, recently said that an agreement between the two was close to being completed, and in a new report, he provides more details.

According to Grubb, Kojima Productions and Xbox have signed a letter of intent for a publishing deal of an Xbox game. While the deal still hasn’t been completed – lawyers are still yet to agree finalize terms and decide the finer details, and a letter of intent doesn’t necessarily mean something is set in stone – this brings it one step closer to being finalized.

Details on what this game could end up being are scant, but it’s been suggested that Kojima intends to use Microsoft’s cloud technologies as a focal point of his next game. Grubb states that Microsoft’s recent recruitment of former Portal and Left 4 Dead developer Kim Swift as senior director of Xbox Cloud Gaming was specifically for the purpose of working with Kojima.

Again, this is yet to be finalized, nor is this officially unveiled information, so tread with caution for now. We’ll keep you updated should we learn more though, so stay tuned.
