Xbox Series S to Receive a Higher-Spec Refresh in 2022 – Rumour

A new rumour claims that Microsoft will launch a more powerful and costlier version of the Xbox Series S next year, but will continue to sell the current model at a lower price at the same time.

Given the fact that Microsoft entered the new console generation with two variations of their next-gen hardware, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to assume that they will continue to put out more models and variations of the Xbox Series line of consoles in the coming years. If a new rumour is to be believed though, it seems new iterations might come sooner than you think.

In a recently published video, YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead (via Videocardz) has claimed that 2022 will see Microsoft releasing a newer version of the Xbox Series S that will feature a higher-spec 6nm AMD Zen APU. Thanks to a transition to TSMC 6N, the the Xbox Series S will allegedly be able to fully access all 24 of its compute units, which could potentially mean higher clock speeds and a much faster console. The current Xbox Series S model has 4 of its 24 CUs disabled.

The video goes on to claim that the newer Xbox Series S model will be costlier than the current one- though interestingly enough, Microsoft will supposedly continue to sell both Xbox Series S models, with the 2020 one even receiving a price cut. Additionally, it seems like a more powerful Xbox Series X refresh is also in the works and set for 2023, though the video doesn’t go into much detail about that.

This should go without saying, but it’s best to take this with a grain of salt, seeing as this is still very much unconfirmed and unverified information. We’ll keep an eye out for any new details though, so stay tuned for more updates.
