Dying Light 2 Stay Human lead game designer, Tymon Smektała, has said that he would like the game’s eventual sequel to feature a more powerful protagonist right from the get go. In an interview with Video Games Chronicle discussing Dying Light 2 Stay Human‘s first DLC—which has been delayed to September—Smektała stated that he would like to give Dying Light 3‘s protagonist more abilities from the start.

“One thing is that if we’re making Dying Light 3, then I would like the main character to start with bigger and better starting abilities and skills,” said Smektała in the interview. “We have used basically the same approach in [Dying Light 2] that we used in the first game, where the player was starting quite weak and then developing further.”

For the sake of comparison, the protagonist of the original Dying Light starts out fairly weak, with little in the way of combat or movement abilities. Dying Light 2 Stay Human, on the other hand, introduces a more experienced character, but several abilities are lost during the course of the game’s opening segment, once again leading to a weaker character. It appears that, in hindsight, Smektała would have liked to have introduced stronger protagonist to kick Dying Light 2 Stay Human off.

“We did something very different in the second one and actually this is something I would like to have corrected when I look at Dying Light 2 from the perspective of three months after the release,” said Smektała. “So I think in the third game, if it happens, that the character will start with more powers, more skills, more abilities as his basic skill set.”

Originally set for a June release, Dying Light 2 Stay Human‘s first story DLC has been delayed to September. Developer Techland stated that the DLC just needs more time, and cited a desire to be “honest and transparent with fans.” June will, however, see an update for Dying Light 2, adding in Photo Mode as well as new missions, bounties, and the Agent and Rank system. Future DLC for Dying Light 2 Stay Human doesn’t yet have a release date.

Dying Light 2 was originally released back in February, on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. Check out our review, where we praised its setup, world-building, and general gameplay, while criticising its voice acting and writing.
