SteamWorld is easily the most popular and recognizable IP that Thunderful Games owns right now, and unsurprisingly, it looks like the developer is looking to capitalize on its success in more ways than one. Last year, Thunderful announced SteamWorld Headhunter, a third person co-op action-adventure game, but it turns out that the developer has three more unannounced SteamWorld titles currently in the works.
The same was confirmed in Thunderful’s recent quarterly fiscal report, in which it listed three unannounced SteamWorld IP games that are currently in the works. The first is codenamed “Strawberry” and is described as a puzzle title in development for mobile devices. Then there’s “Coffee”, a city builder in the works for PC and consoles. Finally, there’s “Caramel”, a turn-based tactical strategy shooter, in development for PC, consoles, and mobile devices.
SteamWorld as a franchise has plenty of experience with branching out into new and different genres, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that Thunderful is continuing down that road. The series has tried its hands at Metroidvanias with the SteamWorld Dig games, tower defense with SteamWorld Tower Defense, turn-based strategy with SteamWorld Heist, deck-building with SteamWorld Quest, and will be going 3D with the aforementioned SteamWorld Headhunter.
Of the four SteamWorld games, three of them are scheduled to launch in 2023, with Caramel being scheduled for 2024.
