Sonic Origins

Sega’s Sonic Origins, which collects and remasters four classic Sonic titles, is now available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The collection includes Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, and Sonic CD for $40. Check out the release trailer below.

Though ostensibly the same games, they’ve been remastered in high definition on the Retro Engine. Two modes are available – Anniversary, which includes wide-screen support and unlimited lives, and Classic, with the original 4:3 aspect ratio and limited lives. Other new features include a Story Mode which connects all four games with animated cutscenes, Boss Rush mode, and Mirror Mode for reversed level layouts.

Each game also offers challenges to complete, awarding coins for unlocking music, artwork, videos, and more in the Museum. There’s also DLC for additional challenges, tracks from other Sonic games like Sonic Spinball, and more. For more details on the base game, check out our official review here.
