Red Dead Redemption 1 and GTA 4 Remasters Were in the Works, but Rockstar Decided to Shelve Them – Rumour

A prominent Rockstar insider has claimed that remasters of the two open world titles have been canned, possibly due to the poor reception for the remastered GTA Trilogy.

Earlier this year, Take-Two Interactive said that it would be published eight remasters, re-rereleases, or remakes of games between now and early 2025, and many had hoped that some of those would be coming from Rockstar’s side of things. And if a new leak is to be believed, that might certainly have been the plan at one point- though it isn’t anymore.

Tez2 is an insider who has quite a solid track record where leaks related to Rockstar are concerned, having accurately leaked plenty of details in the past (especially related to GTA Online). Taking recently to Twitter, the insider claimed that as per “a reliable source with clear accuracy on Rockstar’s plans”, the company was, at one point, considering making remasters of both the original Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto 4 at one point, but both projects ultimately got shelves.

Tez2 says the poor critical reception for last year’s Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition may have been partly responsible for this change in plans, though it doesn’t seem there’s much clarity on that front. A remaster or remake of some sort for the original Red Dead Redemption has been mentioned in leaks and by insiders on a number of occasions.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition had sold over 10 million units as of earlier this year, and had “significantly” exceeded expectations where sales were concerned, as per Take-Two Interactive. Its mobile version was also delayed in May- read more on that through here.
