Striking Distance Studios’ The Callisto Protocol is among the +30 titles appearing at Gamescom Opening Night Live. Director Glen Schofield will be on stage to debut some brand new gameplay along with host Geoff Keighley. The latter has seen a “sneak preview” of the demo and says it’s a “step beyond” the footage showcased at Summer Game Fest 2022.

As a spiritual successor to Dead Space, The Callisto Protocol takes place in the Black Iron prison colony. Following an invasion by a hostile force (referred to as Biophages), prisoner Jacob Lee has to survive. Along the way, he’ll learn more about his foes and how the warden is involved with them.

Lee can wield firearms and fight enemies up close with melee combat. But the most interesting tool is the GRP, which can halt foes and toss them into environmental objects. Be careful – those same hazards can be used against Jacob, as seen in the footage here.

The Callisto Protocol releases on December 2nd for PS4, Xbox One, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Gamescom Opening Night Live takes place on August 23rd at 2 PM ET/11 AM PT and will run for two hours. Stay tuned for more details in the coming week.
