Focus Entertainment and Asobo Studio released a new overview trailer for A Plague Tale: Requiem today, highlighting the story, combat and exploration. On the PlayStation Blog, director Kevin Choteau offered some other interesting details. Amicia has some new tools to fight against her various foes, but she’s up against mercenaries and smugglers.

Choteau notes them to be “more violent and unpredictable. Our team has put a lot of effort into designing their intelligence and reactions to each situation. Their potential of adaptation to Amicia’s moves will truly challenge players!” While not going into too many details, it seems Amicia will have to “control this risk of escalation.”

Thankfully, along with an improved sling, crossbow and new alchemy recipes, the environment will provide different opportunities. We’ve already seen tall grass ignited, and tar pots are thrown to slow enemies. This leads to “much more open encounters”, which works well with bigger environments. Whether one seeks stealth or hand-to-hand combat with a knife, there are way more options than in the previous game.

It also seems that Hugo relying on his powers can have adverse effects, taking damage every time he shared perception with the rats. This apparently “impacts the player’s experience as well and teaches them to be cautious. At the same time, there is a certain vicious pleasure in unleashing this power… but consequences follow and a price is to be paid!” How these moral dilemmas pan out remains to be seen.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is out on October 18th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch via the cloud. It will also launch on day one for Game Pass. Stay tuned for more gameplay in the coming months.
