Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Pokemon titles have traditionally been money-makers for Nintendo and The Pokemon Company, and it comes as no surprise that the recently-launched duo of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is continuing to abide by that tradition.

Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have announced that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet sold 10 million units worldwide within three days of release last week. 4.05 million units were sold in Japan (which means it has surpassed Splatoon 3 as the biggest ever video game launch in Japan), with the rest accounting for worldwide sales. This makes Pokemon Scarlet and Violet the biggest ever launch for a first party Nintendo game.

The open world RPG duo’s sales don’t come as a massive surprise. Not only did the games break the series’ pre-order sales record in the lead-up to launch, they also enjoyed the second-biggest Pokemon launch in the UK to date.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have been on the receiving end from widespread criticism since their release, and though the series’ new open world formula and structure has been widely praised the technical state that the games have launched in has come under fire from all corners.

In our review of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, we gave them a score of 7/10, saying, “Ugly visuals and an all around lack of polish detract from what is an incredibly strong, compelling, and well designed core adventure, one that represents the series’ strongest outing in a very long time otherwise.” Read the full review through here.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available on the Nintendo Switch.
