Splatoon 3 has only been out for three days but is already a major success in Japan. Nintendo confirmed that domestic sales of the shooter crossed 3.45 million units within this period, making it the highest domestic sales for any Nintendo Switch title within the first three days of release. Sales figures include both physical copies and digital downloads.
As a direct sequel to Splatoon 2, Splatoon 3 is set in Splatsville, a new hub area with familiar stores and new activities like Tabletop Turf Battle, a CCG of sorts. The campaign sees players venturing to Alterna to deal with the return of the Mammalians, while multiplayer features 12 new and returning maps. Splatfest also returns and features three teams battling it out, depending on the theme.
Of course, support doesn’t end at launch. There will be new stages, cosmetic catalogues, new weapons and new modes like X Battle and League Battle added in post-launch updates. Nintendo is also working on large-scale paid DLC, though a release date has yet to be confirmed. Stay tuned in the meantime.
