Developer Mojang has revealed that the next major update coming to Minecraft, numbered at 1.20, will bring with it a number of new features. Headlined by an archeology system, the update will also bring with it a new biome—the cherry blossom biome—alongside the new sniffer mob.
The cherry blossom biome will feature large cherry blossom trees, alongside animals like pigs, sheep, and bees. The trees can be used to get pink-colored wood blocks that can be used to craft a new hanging sign.
The new sniffer mob can be spotted by making use of the upcoming archeology feature. Players can use archeology tools at suspicious spots in the world to find sniffer eggs. A fully grown sniffer can be used to find seeds that can grow into unique plants.
Other things can also be found using archeology tools, including pottery shards, as well as random other objects.
Update 1.20 for Minecraft doesn’t yet have a definitive release date, but is slated for release some time in 2023 on all platforms.
Minecraft is available on just about every platform you can imagine, from iOS and Android devices, to PC and consoles.
