Diablo 4 Open Beta Issues Will Improve the Game’s Full Launch

"We solved dozens of issues, and all of that work is going to pay off next weekend and then pave it for launch," says Diablo series GM Rod Fergusson.

Early access for Diablo 4’s open beta concluded just a few days ago, and despite some positive impressions, it had several issues throughout the weekend. Server issues, queues, bugs and much more occurred. At one point, the much-hyped World Boss didn’t even spawn.

The team at Blizzard Entertainment released several updates to fix these issues, but it isn’t the best first impression (especially since players had to pre-order to access it). However, the overall experience will lead to improvements with the open beta and full launch, as Diablo series general manager Rod Fergusson told NME.

“The word beta nowadays has kind of been misconstrued, where people start calling things beta that’s [actually] a marketing beta, and it’s just another term for a demo. That’s not our case at all. Our beta is actually us testing our technology – especially on the server side. We had a little bit of a rocky start on Friday,” said Fergusson.

“We put out six hotfixes over the weekend. We solved dozens of issues, and all of that work is going to pay off next weekend and then pave it for launch. Sometimes, as a player, it can be a little frustrating, but they have to recognize that they’re helping us make the actual launch of the game that much better.”

Diablo 4 is out on June 6th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and PC, but again, players can pay for early access on June 2nd with the Ultimate Edition. Unlike previous titles, it’s more of a pseudo-MMORPG with players encountering others in open spaces, participating in World Events, and much more. How the full launch will pan out remains to be seen, so stay tuned in the coming months.
