Call of Duty is one of the most valued franchises in the gaming industry at this time, and while millions upon millions absolutely loath it, there’s an equal number of people that buys and loves each new CoD game. And while the franchise has now become synonymous with a premium multiplayer experience, the single player campaigns in Call of Duty games have always been excellent. With several games in the series out now, it’s hard to decide which ones have the best single player experiences.

So here’s a list of what we think are the five best campaigns in the Call of Duty series. If we have, by chance, missed out on your favourite picks, sound off in the comments section below.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare marked the beginning of a new era for the series. Modern Warfare changes the direction of the franchise, turning it from being just a Medal of Honor competitor into a bestselling franchise that could outsell the likes of Pokemon and Mario. But multiplayer was not the only strenght that MW could boast of. The campaign of the game was absolutely stunning, and you got to see everything you could hope for in such a game- a nuclear explosion and an entire city leveled, intense firefights that stayed with you long after you finished the game, memorable characters that you grew fond of, and excellent storyline… Modern Warfare had it all.

Call of Duty 2

Till this day, many call Call of Duty 2 the best game in the series. It did not have the incredible multiplayer that the franchise has become synonymous with, but it had a mind blowing campaign, which actually lasted longer than just five hours. But while I don’t think it’s better than CoD4’s campaign, it was still damn awesome, and it still holds up well today, if not as well as it did 6 years ago. It has all the staples you would expect in a military campaign, yet not as dramatic and over the top as recent games in the series. For me, the campaign did everything right.
